Parasites
A threat for cats
The most common cat parasites are fleas, ticks and worms.
Parasite infestation is a constant threat for your cat. Depending on the parasite species, cats may develop anemia or allergic reactions and are generally impaired in their well-being. Many parasites transmit bacterial or protozoal diseases or transmit other parasites (e.g. fleas transmit tapeworms).
A threat for pet owners
Because contact between humans and companion animals has become very close, parasites also affect pet owners. The animal parasites are both a nuisance and a threat for humans particularly in families with children. Some parasite-borne diseases such as Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, and plague can be transmitted from animals to humans (the medical term for this is zoonoses). In addition, some parasites such as roundworms and tapeworms can be acquired by humans either directly or by indirect contact with contaminated feces or by ingestion of contaminated fleas.
