Parasites
A threat for dogs
The most common dog parasites are fleas, ticks, and worms.
Parasite infestation is a constant threat for your dog. Depending on the parasite species, dogs may develop an anemia or allergic reactions and their well-being is generally impaired. Many parasites transmit bacterial or protozoal diseases or transmit other parasites (for example, fleas transmit tapeworms).
A threat for pet owners
Since contact between humans and companion animals has become very close, parasites also affect pet owners. The animals' parasites are both a nuisance and a threat for humans, particularly in families with children. Some parasite-borne diseases such as Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever and plague can be transmitted from animals to humans (these are called zoonoses). In addition, some parasites such as roundworms and tapeworms can be acquired by humans either directly or by indirect contact with contaminated feces or ingestion of contaminated fleas.
