Brown Rat
Rattus norvegicus
This rat lives in rural areas and cities outdoors. A typical feature of its habitat is the proximity to waterways. It is an excellent swimmer and diver and an agile climber.
The brown rat is omnivorous and can even catch mice and kill chicks. They breed as a rule two to three times a year in their underground burrows, producing litters averaging eight young.
