Control
Sound, long-term fly control can only be achieved through Integrated Pest Management, usually specific to the needs of each farm. The following measures should be implemented:
- Managerial measures e.g., keep manure as dry as possible, use mechanical devices such as glue ribbons to help control flies;
- Encourage beneficial insects and mites to flourish;
- Apply products against both adult flies and maggots;
- Use insecticides from different chemical groups i.e., Carbamates, Organophosphates and Pyrethoids either simultanously or in rotation.
At best complement these products by using an Insect Growth Regulator for larvae control.
