Mosquito-Borne Diseases

Mosquitoes are the most important vectors of human infectious diseases like malaria or dengue fever. For dogs it is known that roundworm larvae or viruses like the West Nil virus may be transmitted during blood sucking.

West Nile Fever

West Nile fever is caused by the West Nile virus (WNV), a mosquito-borne flavivirus and human, equine, and avian neuropathogen. Mosquitoes represent the vector and generally wild birds the host. The virus has been isolated also in dogs.

Mosquito control

The use of repellent products to prevent mosquito bites is common in humans. advantix® has proven its insecticidal and repellent efficacy against mosquitoes (Culex pipiens) in comparison to Frontline® Plus, as determined by the ability to prevent feeding. Repellency rates ranged from 96.5% to 100% at all the time points assessed in this study.
